While preparing the second episode of our Jay & Gino story, unfolding in Windsor, I thought I’d look up a few trends about Canadian consumption. Interestingly, I found an analysis of Canadians’ appetite for food and drinks. Eating out is in. Economist Chris Elliot build’s on Stats Canada data to say that Canadians continue to lift their spirits despite recession. Sales at full-service restaurants – just like Jay & Gino’s to-be-inaugurated Motor Burger – grew by 1.2% in the first half of 2009.
That’s certainly good news at the surface and we very much hope our restaurant-owners benefit from that… provided figures in Windsor are close to the Canadian average. I wasn’t able to track down local stats but since part of the GDP team will be in town on November 14 – for a workshop at the Windsor International Film Festival – we’ll try to collect our own data in a purely scientific way.
